Figures from the past entertain the present
Until 9 September
‘Mary Queen of Scots’ will be among the historical figures attending a series of living history events across Scotland this summer.
Castles, palaces and monuments in the care of Historic Scotland will be transporting visitors back in time with falconry displays, music recitals and traditional dance. There will also be Highland clansmen and Cromwellian soldiers.
One Tuesday every month between June and September at St Andrews Cathedral you can enjoy harp recitals. The atmospheric 12th century ruin will come to life with the sounds of medieval church music, played by harpist Simon Chadwick.
From June to August, falconry demonstrations take place at Stirling, Tantallon and Blackness castles, while Perthshire’s 15th century Balvaird Castle hosts open days that give a fascinating insight into its history and recent restoration.
